How to Properly Care for Contacts

Vision Correction SolutionEach day, millions of Americans insert their contact lenses safely. They do, however, risk eye infection or irritation if not work properly or cleaned thoroughly before use and throughout the day. Your eyes are portals to the outside world; they allow you to see everything around you clearly. As such, you need to take care of your eyes in the most efficient manner possible. To properly care for your vision, you need to understand how to care for your contact lenses. We’re here to help!

Wear as Directed

Unfortunately, between 40 to 90 percent of contact lenses users do not follow the instructions on their product. If the contact is not worn and cleaned as the manufacturer intended, eye infection, vision loss, and irritation may be the unfortunate result. If you practice contact lens hygiene, you’re effectively safeguarding your sight.

The first step is to read the directions on the packaging. Following the recommended replacement schedule, and never stretch their use out longer than intended. The same goes for a contact lens case – you should replace it every three months.

Proper Cleaning Techniques

Proper cleaning techniques for contact lenses can be broken down into five easy steps:

  • Wash your hands
  • Rub the lens with recommended solution
  • Rinse the contacts in solution
  • Use fresh solution, never day-old solution
  • Repeat the process for the other lens

By following these simple steps, you are providing your eye with a healthy vision correction solution. By foregoing such cleaning steps, however, you increase the chances of illness and infection. Both may lead to permanent vision loss if you are not careful.
